This Month’s Antique at Bay View’s Historic Johanna Brotch House: A desk clock from Connecticut, c. 1890
This month’s Antique of the Month from the Historic Johanna Brotch House is a late 19th century desk clock made in Connecticut. I don’t know the history of it, only that it has the Connecticut background. It still works fine. The exterior is from just two pieces of solid wood, which is amazing considering how it was cut and sanded to round to a point at the top. It has been reinforced with a separate piece of wood at the crest so it could also be (and has been) hung on a wall.
Also included for fun is a short video of the clock in operation with the pendulum swinging. Note I have this clock positioned on my Art Nouveau sideboard in the dining room here at the Historic Johanna Brotch House in Bay View. I hope you enjoy it!
