Antique of the Month - A Civil War Era Brass Maritime Spyglass

This month’s Antique of the Month from the Historic Johanna Brotch House is a Circa 1860 brass maritime spyglass. It’s unknown if it was used in the Civil War. The lens cover is missing and the rope strapping where the spyglass was gripped certainly shows it age. Unlike a lot of maritime antiques in the collection, there are no identifying maker’s names, serial numbers, or other information. It’s condition is the poorest of all the spyglasses I have and also, I believe, the oldest. It’s a simple one-draw. I hope you enjoy the photos!
