Antique of the Month - A 19th Century Bell Pull to Summon the Butler

This month’s Antique of the Month from the Historic Johanna Brotch House is a Victorian Bell Pull. In its prior life, it hung from a ceiling in a room in a large Victorian home and was connected via a wire to the servants’ quarters where it was hooked up to a bell. When the person in the room of the home wished to call a servant for assistance, this “Bell Pull” that hung from the ceiling was pulled down, thus activating the bell on the other side of the house in the servants’ quarters.

I don’t have any history on this particular Bell Pull, however, the needlework is exquisite as is the ornate iron Pull itself. It’s an original and authentic antique from an old Victorian home. I have two of these, this one I hung on a hook (not yet connected by wires to a bell in the kitchen, though I hope to in the future) in the front parlor. The other, which I’ll post here in the future, hangs from the dining room ceiling. This is an interesting antique from an era now-gone away, so I hope you will enjoy and these photos!
